Experts have been warning that bankruptcy rates will increase for years, but a study conducted in December 2018 seems to indicate that almost half of Canadian families now expect to increase their debt load, simply to pay family and living expenses. In Manitoba and Saskatchewan, the poll shows that nearly 56 percent of residents are at or near insolvency, an increase of eight percent from the prior poll, earlier in the year. Such sharp increases may signal the beginning of significant financial trouble for those families who, like most surveyed, say they are living within $200 of serious financial peril.
