The Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy (OSB) is continuing its efforts to help Canadians experiencing serious financial difficulties find the right debt solution. A multi-channel consumer advertising campaign is launching this week and will run until March 31, 2025.
The “Find Trusted Debt Relief Solutions” campaign is part of the of the OSB’s ongoing efforts to increase consumer awareness about the unregulated Debt Advisory Marketplace. It aims to raise awareness of reliable debt relief options among financially distressed Canadians and will direct audiences to the OSB Debt Solutions Portal.
The portal includes key resources and tools for managing debt, as well as information on how to find and use the services of Licensed Insolvency Trustees (LITs), who are required to undertake a complete assessment of a debtor’s financial situation and discuss all options available (including non-insolvency options) to help the debtor resolve their financial difficulties and are the only professionals authorized to administer government-regulated insolvency proceedings. By providing accessible and reliable information, the portal will help Canadians take action toward financial stability.
The following are examples of some of the messages conveyed via the ad campaign:
Overwhelmed by debt? Take control with trusted solutions.
You don’t have to face debt alone. Take action towards a brighter future.
Struggling with debt? Discover solutions to help you get back on track.
Licensed Insolvency Trustees offer federally regulated debt relief solutions. Start your journey to financial stability.
The campaign is focused on a mix of advertising tactics across digital media channels, which includes online ad campaign banners, paid search engine marketing, Spotify and podcast ads, and social media content. The OSB is developing further social media content to be shared over the coming weeks to help create awareness about the campaign. We will advise LITs once the content is available for those who wish to help amplify the campaign and its messages via their own channels and networks.
The OSB will continue to explore all options to address issues pertaining to the Debt Advisory Marketplace, including raising consumer awareness, pursuing compliance and enforcement, investigating complaints and working with federal, provincial, territorial partners and other stakeholders to protect the integrity of the insolvency system and Canadian consumers.
